The Center for Contemporary and Emerging Technologies (CCET) was established in 2022 as a think tank and non-profit organization dedicated to digital rights advocacy and equitable technological transformation in Zambia. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide, promote responsible technology use, and empower underserved communities with the skills needed for the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).

Societies everywhere have been grappling with the many forms of Internet maleficence. Breaches to data privacy, disinformation and propaganda, cyber-bullying and stoking, exposure to obscene content, cybersecurity vulnerabilities, malware, Ransomware, lack of effective regulation, and digital authoritarianism, are among the factors which continue to negate the power of digital spaces as a sources of value. By use of unethical means such as through social engineering, malign actors and other agents violate the data rights of the users. These actions take a significant toll on the victims who suffer abuse, embarrassment, loss of income, manipulation, intimidation and injustice.
While relevant state actors work tirelessly to remedy this challenge, the collective efforts of non-state actors and wider society are necessary to galvanise moral conscience and goodwill on cyberspace.
Within the same sphere, the fourth industrial era (4IR) has finally set foot. With its force driven by emerging technologies, the disruptive effects of the 4IR within the socioeconomic strata is evident everywhere. But while this is the case, majority institutions of learning continue to use obsolete learning content on the relevant subjects. This approach does not bequeath a generation capable of inspiring meaningful change.
Our training approach is to empower industry ready and bread winning hands-on skills in emerging technologies for industry competitive positioning and entrepreneurial aspirations, respectively. Simultaneously, this approach should bridge the mismatch between skills provided currently by majority academia and the demands of the job market which nations across the world are grappling with.
